What is Cleocin T and why is it prescribed? Cleocin T is an antibiotic used to treat acne. Although applied only to the skin, some of this medication could be absorbed into the bloodstream and it has been known to cause severe, sometimes even fatal, colitis when taken internally. Symptoms, which can occur a few days, weeks, or months after beginning treatment with this drug, include severe diarrhea, severe abdominal cramps, and the possibility of the passage of blood. How should you take Cleocin T? Follow your doctors directions for taking Cleocin T. Excessive use of Cleocin T can cause your skin to become too dry or irritated. If you miss a dose apply it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the one you missed and go back to your regular schedule. Store Cleocin T at room temperature. Keep from freezing. Store liquids in tightly closed containers. Are there any Cleocin T side effects? Cleocin T side effects cannot be anticipated. If any develop or change in intensity, inform your doctor as soon as possible. More common Cleocin T side effects may include burning, itching, peeling skin, reddened skin, and skin dryness. Less common or rare Cleocin T side effects may include abdominal pain, bloody diarrhea, colitis, diarrhea, oily skin, skin inflammation and irritation, and stomach and intestinal disturbances. What are the possible food and drug interactions when taking Cleocin T? If Cleocin T is taken with certain other drugs, the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. Be sure to inform your doctor of all the prescription and over the counter medications you are taking. If you have diarrhea while taking Cleocin T, check with your doctor before taking an antidiarrhea medication, as certain drugs may cause your diarrhea to become worse. The diarrhea should not be treated with the commonly used drugs that slow movement through the intestinal tract, such as Lomotil or products containing paregoric. Are there any special warnings about Cleocin T? Cleocin T contains an alcohol base, which can cause burning and irritation of the eyes. It also has an unpleasant taste. Use caution when applying this medication so as not to get it in the eyes, nose, mouth, or skin abrasions. In the event of accidental contact, rinse the affected area with cool water. Use with caution if you have hay fever, asthma, or eczema. |
