What is Desloratadine and why is it prescribed? Desloratadine is an antihistamine used to relieve the symptoms of hay fever. If you have liver or kidney disease, your doctor should cut your starting dose in half. How should you take Desloratadine? Follow your doctors directions for taking Desloratadine. Desloratadine can be taken with or without food. If you miss a dose take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the one you missed and go back to your regular schedule. Never take two doses at the same time. Store Desloratadine at room temperature. Protect it from heat. Are there any Desloratadine side effects? Desloratadine side effects cannot be anticipated. If any develop or change in intensity, inform your doctor as soon as possible. More common Desloratadine side effects may include dry mouth, fatigue, sleepiness, and sore throat. Less common Desloratadine side effects may include dizziness, dry throat, flu-like symptoms, muscle pain, and nausea. Rare Desloratadine side effects may include acute allergic reaction, hives, itching, rapid heartbeat, rash, shortness of breath, and swelling. What are the possible food and drug interactions when taking Desloratadine? If Desloratadine is taken with certain other drugs, the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. Be sure to inform your doctor of all the prescription and over the counter medications you are taking. No significant interactions have been reported. Are there any special warnings about Desloratadine? Do not increase the dose of Desloratadine or take it more than once a day. Higher doses have no additional effect on hay fever symptoms and may cause drowsiness. Desloratadine is not approved for children under 12. |
