What is Detrol and why is it prescribed? Detrol combats symptoms of overactive bladder, including frequent urination, urgency, and urge incontinence. Detrol works by blocking the nerve impulses that prompt the bladder to contract. In a limited number of people, Detrol causes blurred vision. Take care when driving or operating machinery until you know how the drug affects you. How should you take Detrol? Follow your doctors directions for taking Detrol. Detrol can be taken with or without food. Swallow Detrol LA capsules whole. If you miss a dose take the forgotten dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the one you missed and go back to your regular schedule. Do not take two doses at once. Store Detrol at room temperature. Are there any Detrol side effects? Detrol side effects cannot be anticipated. If any develop or change in intensity, inform your doctor as soon as possible. More common Detrol side effects may include abdominal pain, blurred vision, constipation, diarrhea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry eyes, dry mouth, fatigue, flu-like symptoms, headache, indigestion, and vertigo. Less common Detrol side effects may include allergic reactions, anxiety, chest pain, difficult or painful urination, dry skin, hallucinations, incomplete bladder emptying, increased urination, infection, inflamed sinuses, joint pain, rapid heartbeat, swelling in the arms and legs, and weight gain. What are the possible food and drug interactions when taking Detrol? If Detrol is taken with certain other drugs, the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. Be sure to inform your doctor of all the prescription and over the counter medications you are taking. It is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Detrol with Clarithromycin (Biaxin), Cyclosporine (Neoral, Sandimmune), Erythromycin antibiotics (such as Ery-Tab, Eryc, and PCE), Ketoconazole (Nizoral), Itraconazole (Sporanox), Miconazole, or Vinblastine. Are there any special warnings about Detrol? Use Detrol with caution if you have a bladder obstruction or digestive disorder that could lead to a complete blockage. Use caution, too, if you are being successfully treated for glaucoma, or have a liver or kidney problem. |
