What is Dynacirc and why is it prescribed? Dynacirc, a type of medication called a calcium channel blocker, is prescribed for the treatment of high blood pressure. Calcium channel blockers ease the workload of the heart by slowing down the passage of nerve impulses through the heart muscle, thereby slowing the beat. This improves blood flow through the heart and throughout the body and reduces blood pressure. A controlled-release version of this drug (Dynacirc CR) maintains lower blood pressure for 24 hours. You must take Dynacirc regularly for it to be effective. Dynacirc does not cure high blood pressure but it keeps it under control. How should you take Dynacirc? Follow your doctors directions for taking Dynacirc. Try not to miss any doses. If Dynacirc is not taken regularly, your condition may worsen. Swallow the capsule or tablet whole, without crushing or chewing it. If you miss a dose take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the one you missed and go back to your regular schedule. Never take two doses at the same time. Store Dynacirc at room temperature, away from light, in a tightly closed container. Are there any Dynacirc side effects? Dynacirc side effects cannot be anticipated. If any develop or change in intensity, inform your doctor as soon as possible. More common Dynacirc side effects may include dizziness, fluid retention, flushing, headache, and pounding heartbeat. Less common Dynacirc side effects may include chest pain, diarrhea, fatigue, nausea, rapid heartbeat, rash, shortness of breath, stomach upset, unusually frequent urination, vomiting, and weakness. Rare Dynacirc side effects may include constipation, cough, decreased sex drive, depression, difficulty sleeping, drowsiness, dry mouth, excessive sweating, fainting, changes in heartbeat, heart attack, heart failure, hives, impotence, itching, leg and foot cramps, low blood pressure, nervousness, numbness, severe dizziness, sluggishness, stroke, throat discomfort, tingling or pins and needles, and vision changes. What are the possible food and drug interactions when taking Dynacirc? If Dynacirc is taken with certain other drugs, the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. Be sure to inform your doctor of all the prescription and over the counter medications you are taking. It is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Dynacirc with Beta-blocking blood pressure drugs (such as Tenormin, Inderal, and Lopressor), Cimetidine (Tagamet), or Rifampin (Rifadin). Are there any special warnings about Dynacirc? Dynacirc can cause your blood pressure to become too low. If you feel light-headed or faint, contact your doctor. Dynacirc should be carefully monitored if you have congestive heart failure, especially if you are also taking a beta-blocking medication such as Tenormin or Inderal. Before having surgery, including dental surgery, tell the doctor that you are taking Dynacirc. |
