What is Ketotifen Fumarate and why is it prescribed?
Ketotifen Fumarate combats the release of chemicals that trigger allergic reactions. Available in eyedrop form, it works within minutes to relieve the itchy eyes brought on by allergies. Ketotifen Fumarate is for use in the eyes only. Do not inject or swallow Ketotifen Fumarate.

How should you take Ketotifen Fumarate?
Follow your doctors directions for taking Ketotifen Fumarate. To prevent contamination, do not touch the eyelids, eye, or surrounding areas with the dropper tip of the bottle. If you miss a dose apply it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the one you missed and go back to your regular schedule. Never apply more than one drop at a time. Keep the bottle tightly closed when it is not in use. Store between 39 and 77 degrees Fahrenheit.

Are there any Ketotifen Fumarate side effects?
Ketotifen Fumarate side effects cannot be anticipated. If any develop or change in intensity, inform your doctor as soon as possible. More common Ketotifen Fumarate side effects may include headache, runny nose, and increased blood flow in the eyelid. Less common Ketotifen Fumarate side effects may include allergic reactions, burning or stinging, dilated pupils, discharge, dry eyes, eye pain, eyelid disorder, flu syndrome, itching, inflamed eyelids or corneas, light sensitivity, rash, sore throat, and tearing.

What are the possible food and drug interactions when taking Ketotifen Fumarate?
If Ketotifen Fumarate is taken with certain other drugs, the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. Be sure to inform your doctor of all the prescription and over the counter medications you are taking. Since Ketotifen Fumarate is not ingested, interactions are unlikely.

Are there any special warnings about Ketotifen Fumarate?
Do not wear contact lenses if your eyes are red or irritated, and do not use Ketotifen Fumarate to treat irritation from contact lenses. If you wear soft contact lenses, wait at least 10 minutes after applying Ketotifen Fumarate before inserting them. The safety and effectiveness of Ketotifen Fumarate in children below the age of 3 years have not been established.
