What is Lac-Hydrin and why is it prescribed? Lac-Hydrin is used in the treatment of dry, scaly skin, including the genetic condition called ichthyosis vulgaris. Available in cream and lotion form, the drug moisturizes the skin and breaks up the scales. Keep areas treated with Lac-Hydrin out of the sun as much as possible. If you must go outdoors, protect treated areas with clothing. How should you take Lac-Hydrin? Follow your doctors directions for taking Lac-Hydrin. Shake the lotion well. Apply cream or lotion to the affected areas and rub in thoroughly. If you miss a dose apply it as soon as you remember. If it almost time for your next dose, skip the one you missed and return to your regular schedule. Store Lac-Hydrin at room temperature. Are there any Lac-Hydrin side effects? Lac-Hydrin side effects cannot be anticipated. If any develop or change in intensity, inform your doctor as soon as possible. More common Lac-Hydrin side effects may include burning, dryness, eczema, irritation, itching, peeling, rash, skin discoloration, small spots on the skin, and stinging. What are the possible food and drug interactions when taking Lac-Hydrin? If Lac-Hydrin is taken with certain other drugs, the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. Be sure to inform your doctor of all the prescription and over the counter medications you are taking. No interactions are known. Are there any special warnings about Lac-Hydrin? Use Lac-Hydrin only on the skin. Avoid contact with eyes, lips, or mucous membranes. If the skin condition worsens, stop using Lac-Hydrin immediately and call your doctor. Lac-Hydrin may cause stinging and burning when applied to raw or broken skin. Due to the possibility of irritation, use caution when you apply it to the face. |
