What is Nabumetone and why is it prescribed? Nabumetone is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug used to relieve the inflammation, swelling, stiffness, and joint pain associated with rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. You should have frequent checkups with your doctor if you take Nabumetone regularly. Ulcers or internal bleeding can occur with or without warning. How should you take Nabumetone? Follow your doctors directions for taking Nabumetone. Nabumetone can be taken with or without food. If you miss a dose take the forgotten dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the one you missed and go back to your regular schedule. Never take a double dose. Keep Nabumetone in the container it came in, tightly closed, and away from moist places and direct light. Nabumetone can be stored at room temperature. Are there any Nabumetone side effects? Nabumetone side effects cannot be anticipated. If any develop or change in intensity, inform your doctor as soon as possible. More common Nabumetone side effects may include abdominal pain, constipation, diarrhea, dizziness, fluid retention, gas, headache, indigestion, itching, nausea, rash, and ringing in ears. Less common Nabumetone side effects may include dry mouth, fatigue, inability to fall or stay asleep, increased sweating, inflammation of the mouth, inflammation of the stomach, nervousness, sleepiness, and vomiting. Rare Nabumetone side effects may include agitation, anxiety, confusion, bloody stools, depression, difficult or labored breathing, difficulty swallowing, fluid retention, general feeling of illness, hives, increase or loss of appetite, kidney failure, large blisters, liver failure, pins and needles, pneumonia or lung inflammation, sensitivity to light, severe allergic reactions, skin peeling, stomach and intestinal inflammation and/or bleeding, tremor, ulcers, vaginal bleeding, vertigo, vision changes, weakness, weight gain, and yellow eyes and skin. What are the possible food and drug interactions when taking Nabumetone? If Nabumetone is taken with certain other drugs, the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. Be sure to inform your doctor of all the prescription and over the counter medications you are taking. It is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Nabumetone with blood-thinning drugs such as Coumadin and aspirin. Other drugs with which Nabumetone could possibly interact include Diuretics (such as HydroDIURIL and Lasix), Lithium (Eskalith), or Methotrexate. Are there any special warnings about Nabumetone? Stomach and intestinal ulcers can occur without warning. Remember to get regular checkups. Make sure the doctor knows if you have kidney or liver disease. Nabumetone should be used with caution. Nabumetone can cause fluid retention and swelling. Nabumetone be used with caution if you have congestive heart failure or high blood pressure. Nabumetone can cause increased sensitivity to sunlight. |
